Dorado Caye is located 19 miles east of Placencia and outside the marine reserves. The island is roughly 3 miles inside the Belize Barrier Reef right near the Gladden Spit. Dorado Caye has rather shallow boat access on the west side and a HUGE shoal only a few inches deep on the north. This offers plenty of protected anchorage just off shore to the west in water that is always flat. There is plenty of high and dry sandy ground on the island but the majority will need filling to make the entire island usable. The snorkeling around the island is spectacular.
