Infrastructure

The resort site is fully functional with all infrastructure installed.
Water is obtained using 3 different methods. A reverse osmosis desalination system from SK Watermakers has been in use for 3 years with a production of 900 gallons per day. The system draws 10 amps of power which requires the use of the generators. In an effort to produce free water without the use of electricity, a well was installed that produces high-quality fresh water. There is also a tower on site and construction is underway to use a windmill to pump water into the storage tanks. This system is expected to produce more than 6,000 gallons of fresh water per day. Both systems utilize a 20,000 gallon tank for treated water storage.
The two cabanas have metal roofs that catch rainwater. Each cabana has its own dedicated water storage tank which is a sufficient amount of water when the resort is not operational.
The island owns four diesel generators housed in a concrete block building well away from the resort site. Three are currently installed while the fourth is there in case of need. When the resort was operational, only one generator was needed at a time. A 30KW Detroit Diesel was used during most operational days while an older 40KW generator was also utilized periodically. A 75KW Caterpillar generator is on site but not connected since the generator is larger than was needed for daily operation. This unit is virtually brand new. While the resort is closed, the owners and caretakers utilize an 8KW in the evenings only for lighting. There are currently no batteries or inverters used on the island for electricity storage.
The cabanas and public restrooms each have their own septic systems.

The bar uses 220V electric appliances consisting of a fryer and grill plus a 3-door stainless steel sandwich maker/cooler. Two stainless steel bins hold ice produced from two ice machines located in the desalination building. There are also two stainless steel sinks at the bar.
The kitchen holds the gas powered deep freezer and a 4-door upright refrigerator along with two 4-burner gas grills and stove. A 6-compartment buffet warmer keeps food warm.
There is also a large stainless steel food preparation area and commercial sinks with disposal.
Since Water Caye is within cellular range of Belize City, communications are handled through your typical handheld cellular phones. There is also a ship to shore radio system used as a back up. Though currently not in use, a satellite system is installed to receive television, internet and to process credit card purchases.
